mori checks for updates once a day and downloads nothing without asking. On Windows the Microsoft Store does that instead.

Touchpad scrolling now follows your hand, and three small editing slips are gone.

Highlights
  • No more sudden touchpad jumps: changing direction, or resting your fingers on a moving page and moving again, no longer throws the page hundreds of pixels.
  • A flick during a fling keeps it going, a little faster each time, instead of stopping dead. Fingers that rest hold the page where it is.
  • Each swipe goes further, the same distance as in other GNOME apps.
  • Backspace on a blank line under a list removes only that line: the paragraph below stays a paragraph instead of joining the last item.
  • Bold right after a bullet no longer pulls the bullet to the left when the caret reaches it.
  • Code blocks hold still: typing a period at the end of a line no longer moves the line.

mori is now free to write in with no time limit, and a licence adds export: Word and Hangul files, print with page setup, and a new PDF.

Highlights
  • No trial: writing, editing, saving and search never stop. A licence adds every export and the appearance settings.
  • One Export… in the menu: a card picks PDF, Word, Hangul or HTML, with the paper and Page setup.
  • Word (.docx) and Hangul (.hwpx) built on their own styles, so headings, lists, footnotes, tables and equations stay editable.
  • A new PDF: embedded fonts, no stranded lines, table headers repeated on each page, code blocks as on screen.
  • Print and Page setup: paper, orientation, three styles, contents, page numbers, header and footer.
  • Links to other files work in an exported file, from wherever you save it.

A folder that stops answering can no longer freeze mori, every save is checked, and six editing fixes for documents written with AI agents.

Highlights
  • A cloud or network folder that stops answering no longer freezes the window: the tab says so, and your text waits in a draft until the folder answers.
  • Every save is read back: a file a sync client cuts short is written again whole, and a file cut mid-character opens up to the break instead of as an empty window.
  • A formula shows its TeX only when the caret touches it, and text typed on an empty row stays a paragraph of its own.
  • Backspacing through a list item removes the item instead of leaving a hidden blank line that split the list.
  • Tables, pictures, formulas, code and quotations inside a list item stand under the item's text, and wrapped items line up.
  • Long inline code in a table wraps inside its cell, and rows added with Tab are spaced like the ones you typed.

Safer autosave and undo, an even line rhythm everywhere, and one clear rule for formatting.

Highlights
  • Autosave no longer makes a mass deletion final: if most of a document disappears, mori pauses and asks before saving. A reload from disk can now be undone, and undo reaches 10,000 steps.
  • mori now keeps earlier versions of each file — every ten minutes and before any large deletion — so an unwanted save can be recovered.
  • Every line of text sits on one grid: inline code, code blocks, headings, and wrapped lines keep an even rhythm at any font size.
  • Formatting follows one rule for every mark, and strikethrough now needs two tildes, so ranges like 10~20 stay as written.
  • Holding Ctrl+W closes only one tab, Ctrl+Shift+N opens a new window, and new tabs show that they are unsaved.
  • Smoother fast scrolling with free-spinning mouse wheels, and file dialogs now open in your current folder.

A visual refresh for Markdown, with more predictable formatting and editing behavior.

Highlights
  • Markdown rendering has been refined to closely match Claude’s visual rhythm for headings, lists, inline code, code blocks, table rules, and horizontal rules. Your files are unchanged — this only affects how mori draws them.
  • Improved heading spacing, list alignment, inline code styling, code-block layout, and math sizing.
  • Refined colors for table rules, horizontal rules, checkboxes, quotation bars, bullets, and numbers.
  • Formatting commands such as bold, italic, strikethrough, highlight, inline code, and math now toggle cleanly when applied again.
  • Better editing around indented text, wrapped quotations, numbered lists, code blocks, and the file rail, so text stays where you put it.
  • New installs now open with a larger default window, while preserving sizes you have already chosen.

mori 1.0.2 for Linux and Windows.

Windows
  • mori is now available on Windows through the Microsoft Store.
  • The Windows build includes the same core editor as Linux: Live, Source, and Read views, tables, math, images, tabs, file rail, outline, Find & Replace, focus mode, 12 UI languages, and Korean input through the Windows IME.
  • Printing and PDF export are not yet available on Windows.
  • One licence key works across Linux and Windows, for up to three personal devices, with the same 14-day trial.
  • Microsoft Store installs stay up to date automatically.
The name
  • The app is now called mori. Version 1.0.2 originally shipped as mote; the editor, licence keys, and service addresses are unchanged.
  • Existing settings, sessions, drafts, backups, trial state, and activation are migrated automatically on first launch.
  • Existing apt and Flatpak installs can move to mori through their normal update path.
  • Existing licence keys beginning with `MOTE-` continue to work.
Also in this release
  • Ctrl+W and other document shortcuts no longer pass through open cards such as Preferences, Save Changes, or the command palette.
  • The command palette has been redesigned to match the web editor.
  • Improved scrolling and scrollbar placement inside cards and Preferences.
  • Redesigned Preferences switches with cleaner motion and corrected hover styling elsewhere in the app.
  • Refined the relationship between the header and file rail.
  • With no folder open, Ctrl+N now creates an untitled tab without writing anything to disk.

  • Optional session restore brings back the documents that were open when you last quit.

  • .txt files now sit naturally alongside Markdown files, and Source view follows true plain-text line spacing.

mori 1.0 for Linux.

Licence and trial
  • A licence covers up to three devices and every 1.x update, with no subscription or renewal.
  • New installs include a 14-day trial with the full editor. Licensed features such as the dark theme, custom fonts, typewriter mode, and focus mode become available after activation.
  • After the trial ends, mori asks for a licence. Your files remain untouched on disk and can still be opened in any editor.
  • Activation registers the device once online; after that, mori works offline and checks in periodically.
Highlights
  • Plain-text files are now supported alongside Markdown, including .txt files in the file tree and Open Quickly.
  • Improved detection of files changed outside mori, including Git checkouts, formatters, and other editors.
  • The folder you open is now the workspace root for every window and is restored on the next launch.
  • The sidebar is simpler, with Files and Outline as its main views.
  • Improved table editing, image resizing, scrolling stability, and text layout.

  • First build with Live, Source and Read — three views of one buffer, on Linux (GTK 4, libadwaita).
  • Byte-exact round-trip: a file is written back as the bytes you typed. Line endings, indentation, frontmatter and HTML pass through untouched, verified against the CommonMark spec corpus.
  • Folder sidebar, no indexing.
Versioning. Major versions (2.0) may change file handling and are a separate, discounted purchase for existing owners. Minor versions add features. Patch versions fix bugs and never change behaviour you rely on. Every minor and patch release inside your major is free.
